Gift Idea: Father's Day Gift

I find my dad is by far the most difficult person in my life to make or create a thoughtful gift for. I always have good intentions but usually end up buying him a DVD or something I know he actually wants. This year I am a bit more proud of myself and I actually have the creation of this blog to thank for the thought and effort I put into the gift. This blog is my way of being accountable with my gift giving and sort of forces me to make sure everyone has a gift from the heart.. even dad! Haha.

Firstly, I have to be honest I still purchased a trusty DVD for him, but I made a thoughtful accompanying gift to go with it. My dad loves beer, he loves it and would probably be happy if that was all I gave him. But I don’t want to do that, it feels weird and so impersonal.  So this year I combined his love of beer and his favourite foods to create the following masterpiece. In each bottle I have put some of his favourite snacks. I am actually excited to give him his gift this year and see his reaction!

Gift for a Teacher

I absolutely love this gift and look forward to having kids at school one day just so I can make it for their teachers. The reason I love this gift so much is because it was actually a gift given to me. I am a primary school teacher and in my first year of teaching I received this gift at the end of the year. It meant so much more to me than some of boxes of chocolates I was given. In saying that, obviously I appreciated the boxes of chocolates and did in no way expect any gifts. But I thought this was extremely special and meaningful as it was made specifically for me. This beautiful frame takes prime position on my desk and brings a smile to my face every time I look at it.

Anniversary Gift: Home is wherever I'm with you

This year my partner and I set a $10 limit on all of our gifts, so I had to get clever and creative in order to make something meaningful for him. We housesit so have lived in quite a few different places together and we love the Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros song ‘Home’ so I combined the two to make the gift. I found a map, added the hearts and quote, put it in a frame and voila! I then had a fancy looking gift to admire and still had some money left to buy him some of his favourite treats! J
